The answer is…it depends! The best thing to do (if it is minor damage) is get some estimate to see if it is worth putting into your insurance company, you will have to pay your deductible! If you have a $500 deductible on your auto collision coverage and the damage is $700, it may not be worth putting in a claim for the insurance company to only pay out $200.
While you are deciding to put in the claim, try not to get repairs unless absolutely necessary, the insurance company will want to review the claim and most likely send out an adjuster to take a look at any damage. If you must get repairs to prevent further damage, take pictures and save all invoices!
